During the 1982-83 school year, I was a freshman at the Worthington Scranton Campus of the Pennsylvania State University in Dunmore. Penn State was operating with 10-week trimesters instead of 15-week semesters. During the Winter Trimester, I took Bowling as a Physical Education class. We had this class at MBC Lanes. This was where EFO is currently located. On the upper level were Big Lots is located, there was Kings Department Store. (Before it was Kings, it was Miracle Mart. After Kings went out of business, Jamesway was at this location.)
After Bowling class, I would drive back to the Worthington Scranton Campus for my other classes. If my memory serves me correctly, Monahan Street was a one way street toward the Keystone Industrial Park. I used to take Monahan Street, then take University Drive past the State Police Barracks to cross the O'Neil Highway to get back to campus. I remembered seeing railroad tracks in the industrial park.
On Tuesday, December 29, 2014, I went to the Price Chopper in Dunmore. I decided to go down University Drive to see if the tracks were still there. Some of the tracks are still there but are overgrown with brush. Because of a landfill, there does not appear to be a way to readily restore rail service to the industrial park.
