Take note of the extended part, toward the left. When they bought the house, this was a back porch. My parents had it enclosed and made into a bathroom. At the time, the washing machine was in the kitchen. They selected a bathroom window that opened horizontally instead of vertically. The clothesline pulleys were above the window. My mother used to hang laundry on the clothesline through the bathroom window. Later, they bought a dryer, and moved the washer to the basement. They moved the clothesline pulleys to ground level.
When they enclosed the porch to make the bathroom, they extended the foundation under the new bathroom. When people asked my father about the grey door, he told them that it was the entrance to his bomb shelter. Actually, it served as a tool shed, where he kept the lawnmower, and gardening tools.
See the 1971 Dodge Dart Swinger in the driveway. My parents kept it until 1979, about a year before I turned 16. At the time, I had absolutely no desire to drive it. I was embarrassed to be seen in it. IT WAS ORANGE!
