In the past, the Foster's Lager that was consumed in the United States was brewed and canned by Carlton & United Breweries Limited, and imported from Australia by All Brand Importers of Hartford, CT. The cans more closely resembled oil cans rather than the beer cans that we see today.
In 1988, when I first got interested in sampling beer, there were several other Australian imports available in 1-pint 9-ounce (25-ounce/740 milliliter) oil cans:
- Cooper's Big Barrel Australian Lager brewed and canned by Cooper & Sons, LTD., Leabrook, South Australia, and imported by Garden, Inc., Stamford, CT
- KB Lager brewed and canned by Carlton & United Breweries (NSW) PTY Limited, 26 Broadway, Sidney, Australia and imported by Mission Imports of Los Angeles, CA
- Reschs Pilsener brewed and canned by Carlton & United Breweries (NSW) PTY Limited, 26 Broadway, Sidney, Australia and imported by Mission Imports of Los Angeles, CA
